The HSL Kauai Makes Headlines and History in Iloilo

Hudson Shipping is proud to share that our vessel, the MV HSL Kauai, was recently featured in the Daily Guardian, a respected publication serving Western Visayas in the Philippines.
The Daily Guardian’s article, “Where the Garden Isle Meets the City of Love," tells the story of the HSL Kauai's arrival in Iloilo City on her second-ever voyage. Delivered in March 2026, the HSL Kauai is among the newest additions to our Clean&Green™ Series: advanced Japanese-engineered bulk carriers built for performance and environmental responsibility.
What truly set this voyage apart was the captain and crew who brought her in. Captain Diosdado B. Sampiano, an Ilonggo native, guided the HSL Kauai into the waters of the Iloilo Strait, the very same ones he grew up watching as a child. Alongside him, Chief Engineer Rex Ernest V. Pedregosa, also from Iloilo, ensured the ship's systems performed flawlessly throughout the voyage. Together, they led a crew of 20 Filipino seafarers who had sailed from Albany, Australia, carrying a cargo of feed wheat to support Panay's agricultural and livestock industries.
We are honored that the Daily Guardian chose to highlight the HSL Kauai and the people aboard her. To see our vessel recognized not just for what she carries, but for the human stories behind each voyage - an Ilonggo captain coming home, Filipino seafarers connecting global trade to their own communities - is precisely the kind of acknowledgment that means the most to us at HSL. It is a reminder that shipping is one of the few industries that unites the world, not just via the goods our vessels carry, but by the people crewing them as well.
At Hudson Shipping Lines, we are steadfast in our belief that shipping is more than logistics. It is a bridge between nations, between industries, and between people. The HSL Kauai and her recent stop in Iloilo serve as a perfect example of this principle. Built in Japan, named for a Hawaiian island, and crewed by some of the finest Filipino and Japanese maritime professionals in the world, she embodies everything we set out to build when we designed the Clean&Green™ HSL Series.
We send our warm congratulations to Captain Sampiano, Chief Engineer Pedregosa, and all 20 crew members of the HSL Kauai, and salute them for representing Hudson Shipping Lines with such distinction.
