Slow Down: Whale Crossing Ahead!

As longtime supporters of the Port of Vancouver’s Enhancing Cetacean Habitat and Observation (ECHO) Program, Hudson is once again proud to take voluntary steps to help protect some of our ocean’s most vulnerable and endangered marine species.
According to the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), May is a significant month for some whale species because it marks key events in their migration and breeding cycles. As such, in areas such as California, Canada and Brazil, May also sees the introduction of mandatory and voluntary measures to reduce the risk of whale-ship collisions.
In addition to Hudson’s strict adherence to the Government of Canada’s zone-specific seasonal speed restrictions, we are committed to supporting and implementing additional recommended measures, such as voluntary speed reductions, in the waters near California, Canada, and Brazil.
These efforts are aimed at protecting at-risk species such as Southern Resident Killer (SRK) Whales, Blue Whales, North Atlantic Right Whales, and migrating Humpback Whales, porpoises, and dolphins. The objective is to mitigate threats including vessel strikes, avoidable underwater noise, and reduced availability and accessibility to food sources.
At Hudson, we believe it is our responsibility to be good stewards of the ocean and its wildlife, and to encourage others to follow our lead while we continue to put planet before profits!
