Reaching New Heights: Supporting the Athletes of Kilimanjaro

Hudson and the TREAT Foundation are teaming up again and this time our sights are set 5,895 meters above sea level.

In the world of maritime and supply chain logistics, success depends on resilience, teamwork, and determination.  Every voyage requires countless individuals working together to safely move cargo across oceans, overcome challenging conditions, and deliver on schedule. Those same qualities are essential for scaling the great heights of Mount Kilimanjaro, but it's the hardworking porters and guides of the mountain who make the journey to the summit possible.

As the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro rises 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level and attracts well over 30,000 adventurous climbers to Tanzania each year, all eager to marvel at its breathtaking landscapes and iconic glaciers.

In honor of National Mountain Climbing Day on August 1st, Hudson and the TREAT Foundation are proud to support these guides, known through the Foundation's work as the Athletes of Kilimanjaro. Every day, these individuals escort climbing parties up the mountain while carrying essential supplies and ensuring the safety and success of each trek.  Despite the critical role they play, many porters are often equipped with minimal, worn-out, or otherwise inadequate gear. Some guide companies fail to meet basic ethical standards for their crews, leaving porters without proper equipment, nutritious meals, and shelter on the mountain.

Throughout the month of August, Hudson will be spearheading the TREAT Foundation’s clothing drive to help equip the Athletes of Kilimanjaro with the gear they need to work safely and comfortably.  Together we can help ensure these remarkable individuals are supported with essential clothing and equipment as they continue guiding climbers to the “Roof of Africa”, while supporting their families and communities.

Hudson is proud to support the TREAT Foundation’s incredible work on and off the field.  We commend the Foundation for recognizing the challenges these dedicated porters face and for taking the initiative to provide meaningful support. Whether across the world’s oceans or up the slopes of Africa’s highest mountain, we invite our employees, partners, and friends to join us in making a difference, one donation at a time.
