Hudson’s Team Athens Walks the Shadows with Shedia

Hudson’s Team Athens recently took part in Shedia’s Invisible Tours, a powerful social initiative led by individuals who have experienced, or are experiencing, homelessness. Guide Michalis graciously shared his personal journey while leading the team through corners of Athens too often overlooked: homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and rehabilitation centers.

As Team Athens followed Michalis through hidden alcoves of the city, including emergency shelters, long-term housing facilities, soup kitchens, and rehabilitations centers, Michalis shed light on the daily struggles of people living on the margins. He shared stories of resilience, solidarity, and hope through Shedia’s programs.
On Nikiou street, Shedia’s headquarters is more than a café in the heart of Athens, serving coffee and meals all day while also serving up dignity and hope. It provides a gallery, showcasing beautiful artwork for sale made up of recycled pages of Shedia’s magazine created by those experiencing homelessness, while grateful vendors, also part of the homeless community, have the opportunity for meaningful work and income by selling Shedia’s papers throughout the city.
Beyond Hudson’s financial contribution and participation, the experience was a profound reminder of the power of empathy, dignity, and the many ways each of us can contribute to combating homelessness and the marginalization of our neighbors.
